Enhancing Racial Ethnic Language (REL) Data Collection and Proper Utilization
Executive Report: Enhancing Racial Ethnic Language (REL) Data Collection and Proper Utilization: Telescoping Through the Cultural Eyes
This executive report showcases the importance of the collection of data based on race, ethnicity and language in our health care system and is reflected through the community-cultural eyes.
This report represents the results of a series of focus groups and educational outreaches to five REL groups (Somali, Spanish, African-American, Cambodian and Arabic communities) in Cumberland County, Maine to assess among other things, their perceptions on reasons why REL data are being collected for quality health delivery, covering several important trends, the most significant of which were:
- Cultural differences and uniqueness
- Expectations and trust issues
Individual community reports are available below. This report will add to the body of knowledge on improving efforts to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to our vulnerable minority community in our State.
